Fadwa Wins Gold

April 27, 2013

…like a year ago. Okay, let me back it up. Remember last year when video of some random Egyptian gymnast doing a double front into a pit hit the net? I think folks probably figured it would be awhile before that gymnast, Fadwa Mohamed, would actually compete that vault. Well, “a while” turned out to be like two weeks later! That’s when she chucked that puppy at the 2012 African Championships vault final for a 14.275. With her second vault scoring 13.925, she was able to take home the gold.

The videos of her vaults from those Championships have about 25 hits apiece a year later compared with her training video from the gym that has nearly 5000. What’s up with that? Probably because the poster didn’t put “produnova” or “roche” someplace in the description. That would’ve turned some heads much sooner. Maybe. I only found the video after searching today because Coach Rick posted that she did the produnova again at the World Challenge Cup in Slovenia this past weekend. I was sure that video would be on the net somewhere. Maybe, maybe not. Whoever took the video of her at the African Championships last year waited a month to post it.

The Funniest Things About Hairgate

April 26, 2013

Hairgate. Here’s a recap if you don’t know what I’m talking about. Gabby Douglas wins gold at the 2012 Olympics. Some folks tweet that her hair was a mess. The media reports these tweets. The internet blows up with folks talking about how haters are so stupid for talking crap about Gabby’s hair when she just won gold.

There’s a few funny things about Hairgate. The first thing is, this whole thing was just another manufactured story by the media. Folks tweeting about Gabby’s hair? So what! People say negative things EVERY day about EVERY thing. How the hell did #gabbysmessyhair or whatever become a story? Fuckin’ media, man! Sometimes the media pushes a “story” and then lets it die. No luck so far as Hairgate goes. We’ll probably be hearing about this for as long as Gabby can work her 15 minutes.

Funny thing number two about Hairgate. The folks on twitter weren’t saying a damn thing different than certain gymnastics fans had already been saying. Gabby was wearing her hair in flipped up pony tail. There’s more than a few gymnastics fans that can’t stand this look and have complained about it since it first appeared on the gymscene. They just hate the messy look and have for years. It’s the people who watch only once every four years who were just now discovering that this style has become popular with elite gymnasts.

Funny thing number three about Hairgate. People who don’t know fake hair when they see it. OMG. There seems to be a lot of people who think Gabby’s fake ponytail was her real hair.

Personally, I’d thought Gabby’s hair was messed up from the time she was a junior. I thought it was a little improved by the Olympics, though. Now that she’s got the bucks rolling in, she can afford to get her weave done by a pro and it looks fine. If she ever gets back to the gym and goes back to the fake ponytail, that’ll probably look much better too.

Someone Has Banana Back

April 26, 2013

… and she’s not happy about it.

Both on my front handspring vault and free hip I arch my back and stick my head out. My body should be in a straight line – a tight handstand, not a C or banana shape.

How do you fix a banana back? I don’t even know. Maybe develop a better handstand.

Mommy Goes Boom?

April 25, 2013

Im outside minding my own business and my daughter turns to me and says, “mommy can you do this?”

No, mommy couldn’t. LOL. This poster got “tricked”. Nobody learns a handstand overnight. Her baby girl had been practicing and only showed momma her handstand when she finally learned it.

Acro: Ukraine Impresses

April 25, 2013

F’n Dave is like “Wow!And commentators totally suck!

The best thing about acro is how clean they are. Everything is so pretty and precise. Their dance is great. This routine by Ukraine is interesting to me. I’m trying to figure out what their theme is.

Inspired By Beyonce

April 23, 2013

Coach Rick linked to an article which talked about Florida’s leotards among other things.

The Gators wore a Beyoncé-inspired leotard that featured 2,400 Swarovski crystals and designed by Gators coach Rhonda Faehn.

“That was a long time in the making,” Faehn said. “We found a picture of Beyoncé on the Internet on the red carpet wearing a midnight blue mesh, sweetheart neckline. It was so gorgeous. I was like, ‘we have to have this leotard.’ We kind of filtered it through the girls because they get to design a few sets and I design two sets.”

I wanted to find the dress. Not sure if I did. They said the picture was of Beyonce on the red carpet but I could only find this picture of her in the parking garage.

I could keep searching, but no. Too lazy.

Steingruber Joins Double Layout Full Club

April 19, 2013

ciciginastica uploaded this clip of the full-twisting double layout Giulia Steingruber performed at Europeans 2013.

Who else is in the club? I’m glad you asked. That video and this one were both made before Kytra Hunter did her FTDL.

A Rap About Working Hard

April 1, 2013

It’s called “Nastia Liukin“. I listened to it just because of the title. I wondered, what the heck are they going to rhyme with Liukin. Turns out, nothing. At the end, they just say, “Nastia Liukin, never give up, never give up, Nastia Liukin.” And then it ends with one of her interviews from her comeback.

Edit: I clicked around and I guess this person has other songs with gymnast name titles. Of course, I listened to every one of them. They’re not really about the gymnasts, they are mentioned once or twice per song so I guess the titles must be to get clicks. I’m old and confused so really I can’t even figured out if these are supposed to be whole songs or part of songs or what.

These songs contain foul and rude language.

Edit 2: Wow. Gone already. It occurs to me that I was totally April Fooled.
